Maple Burl Box with African Blackwood (dyed blue)
This box has many extra steps to achieve the final colors. The area that is black was missing in the original burl piece. Burls have a fascinating pin pattern under the bark and instead of just cutting the block down I added black epoxy. This is the results ones turned round. The dye is the same process thats used on electric guitars. I sanded back the outside to show more of the natural wood color. The inside is what the dye color starts out as.
