About Mineral: Alex Schauss had a large suite of several common species such as calcite, quartz, hematite, pyrite, and also azurite. It became a 60 year challenge to add to these suites of common species, and sometimes that is more difficult than you think if you want to have something refined or that stands out in shape or form from 100 others. It actually took him many years to find a large thumbnail example of a perfect, floating azurite "sun" from this famous deposit. Here is, indeed, a maximum thumbnail sized 2.4 cm complete flattened nodule of Azurite with diffuse rosette growths on its surface; and an intense uniform blue color. The shape is like a medallion and the color saturation is unusually good and even, making it the "one" for his suite, for geometry and locality. Large specimens are common! Perfect thumbnail crystals like this...not as much.
