A pretty pattern was created by capturing white sapwood on two sides of the lid. The African Blackwood ring aids in alining the wood patterns of the base to the lid. I feel it also brings cohesiveness to the black lines in the wood and the black areas that long ago a woodworm bored a hole. If you study; you can see were it when in and then back out.
